Afrofuturist B-Boy, remix alchemist, legit funk phenomenon… Montreal’s Shash’U is truly one of a kind. He’s been burning down stages from Boiler Room to underground street dance competition Juste Debout with a mix of wild style remixes and audacious originals that sound at once alien and familiar, turning even the poppiest of radio hits into breakbeat battle weapons. This approach has won Shash’U a rabid following and set the stage for his debut original releases on Fool's Gold.
The moody Thru Da Night EP melds cinematic synth lines with next level drum programming that drives EDM straight through Erotic City (Prince). Yet it's only a teaser of the bass craziness Shash'U has in store on PWRFNK, his electro opus dropping on March 31st. Both EPs will be collected on a limited-edition colored vinyl release featuring sleeve art by acclaimed comic book illustrator Ron Wimberly.
The Thru Da Night EP premiered today on Complex and is available now for free download at foolsgoldrecs.com/shashu.
The EP release party will be held on January 31, 2015 at Le Belmont at 10PM. Shash’U will perform a live set with special guests. Free. 18+
